The Kinderhaus program welcomes children around the age of 2.9 through 5 years old. We are often flexible with the start age depending on a child’s overall preschool readiness. The school year begins each year in August, and runs through mid-July, with a 4-week break in the summer. The Kinderhaus program operates daily from 8:30am to 5:30pm.
Each day at Kinderhaus is filled with child-initiated, teacher-supported activities based upon the input and interests of the class. Children will be immersed in German language and German-speaking cultures, with English stories and songs and American customs incorporated as fitting. By incorporating the values of both German and American cultures, children are encouraged to develop the values of sharing, cooperation, and respect for others.
Kinderhaus welcomes children of all nationalities, religions, and cultures. Non-German language speaking families are always welcome and invited to apply.
German Immersion
Kinderhaus provides San Francisco with a preschool program geared to empower children to speak confidently and discover their worlds in German. Our teachers speak 100% German at all times, although there may be specific moments where more direct German-to-English translation is needed for children who do not have a German speaker at home. (Ask us about our language sandwiching method!)
Play-based Learning
Our curriculum is rooted in a free-play concept that enables ample opportunities for growth and development. Themes of study emerge from the teachers’ observations of the children’s play. Our program offers prompts to explore and create based on childrens’ interests. Art projects are offered, but not required, and no projects suggested by the teacher are required to be completed. Children choose whether and to what extent they want to engage in an activity.
Small, Intimate Setting
We are proud of our low teacher to child ratio, which is currently four to one. It enables our experienced, well-trained, and certified teaching staff to give lots of love and attention to all children.
Outdoors
Children have access to the outdoor backyard during morning and afternoon play. Kinderhaus also has access to an adjacent outdoor playground, and children will spend a lot of time outdoors. In addition, we go on regular field trips year round.
